Here is what we will be covering in class this week:


French: Students will finish writing a descriptive piece to show their knowledge and understanding of proper verb conjugation in the present tense. They will imagine that the objects in the classroom have come alive, and they will describe what is happening.  

Math:  We will complete our unit on addition. There will be an evaluation Wednesday.   They still have to practice on Xtramath basic addition facts and they can also practice subtractions.

English: Reviewing some grammar rules.

Science: Students will present their project where they imagine an environmental organization and how it can help to protect Earth.

Social Studies
We will start in the new year.

Religion: Students will be learning about Advent, week 3. In addition, students will learn about the Huron Carol.


Thursday is our last day before the Christmas break. It's also Ugly Sweater Day.

Students can exchange Christmas cards but no treats please.


Christmas concert: This week we are rehearsing and filming our songs. The link with all the recorded songs will be sent Thursday or Friday.

 Here is what we will be covering in class this week:


French: Students will be reviewing all of the verbs learned thus far in the present tense (AVOIR, ÊTRE, ER, IR and ALLER). We had a pretest on Monday (not for marks) and will have an evaluation on Friday. In addition, students will be learning about irregular verbs. Students also have to practice reading aloud their writing  project about the extraterrestre. 


Math:  We will continue our unit on additions . There will be an evaluation on next Wednesday, December 15th including problem solving.  


English: We will continue to work on grammar and spelling and we will study the poem The Huron Carol by David Bouchard.  


Science: Students will continue to research environmental organizations and how they help to protect Earth.


Social Studies:  We will start in the new year.


Religion: We will be talking about the second week of  Advent and how the First Nations celebrated Christmas through the Huron Carol.

 Here is what we will be covering in class this week:


French:   Students will be learning the verb ALLER in the present tense. There will be an evaluation on Friday


Math:  We are working on our unit on addition. Students needs to memorize the basic addition facts up to  9 + 9. They should go on Xtramath 4 times this week.

English: Students will finish their friendly letters to a family members. They are also working on a personal dictionary.

Science: Students will research environmental organizations and how they help to protect Earth.

Social Studies

Religion: Students will be learning about Advent, week 1. In addition, students will have an introduction to unit 2: A New Beginning.

Here is what we will be covering in class this week:

FrenchStudents will be learning about verbs ending in IR in the present tense. There will be an evaluation on Friday. No Razkids this week. Students have to correct their writing project and recopy it (not all of it on the same night) in a Google.Doc and send it to me on Thursday evening.

Math:  We will start with our unit on additions. Students should practice their basic addition facts up to 9 X 9 on Xtramath 4 times per week.

EnglishWe will be 
riting a good copy of a friendly letter to a special person and aking a personal dictionary of words to spell correctly. 

ScienceStudents will continue to develop a flow chart for a consumer product that indicates the source materials, final product, its use, and method of disposal.

Social Studies: We will start our first unit soon.

Religion: We will review everything from Unit 1.

 Here is what we will be covering in class this week:


French: Students are finishing their writing project. Some of it has to be finished at home. A reminder that students are to read in Razkids every school night except on Friday and weekends. I've sent to all parents, an email with the steps to follow when your child is reading in Razkids.

Math:  We are starting with our unit on estimating additions. Students should start practicing their basic addition facts.

English: Students will finish an assignment where they demonstrate proper use of punctuation. It is due on Tuesday. Then we will move on to sentence structure.

Science: Students will learn to develop a flow chart for a consumer product that indicates the source materials, final product, its use, and method of disposal.

Social Studies:  Priority has been put on French and Math for the moment.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about the following theme: Service- Remembrance Day and Friendships. They will also learn the Apostle’s Creed.

 Here is what we will be covering in class this week:


French: Students will be working on a writing assignment where they describe what a school is. In addition, we will start to learn about verbs ending in ER in the present tense. There will be an evaluation on the verbs Wednesday of next week.
A reminder that students are to read in Razkids every school night except on Friday and weekends. I've sent to all parents, an email with the steps to follow when your child is reading in Razkids.

Math:  We will start with our unit on addition. The first part is to round off numbers and to estimate sums. 

English: Students will continue to learn about punctuation and some grammar rules.

Science: The second evaluation on Waste in our World is on Wednesday. 

Social Studies: Priority has been put on French and Math for the moment.

Religion: Students will learn about Peace and Remembrance Day.

French: Students will have a chance to retest their skills on adjectives as many of them did not do so well. Retest on Wednesday.

Math:  We are finishing on unit on numeration up to 9 999. Evaluation on Thursday.

English: We are starting to learn grammar rules.

Science: We will complete part 2 of the Waste in our World unit.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about Alberta.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about the following theme: Called to be One: The Books of the Old Testament.

No school on Friday and Monday: Faith Days for teachers

Wear black and orange on Thursday. No costumes allowed. Please do not send treats for students to school.

 Here is what we will be covering in class this week:


French:  Students will learn about adjectives. There will be an evaluation on Friday. Students will need to know the proper form of adjectives for the following formats: masculine singular, masculine plural, feminine singular and feminine plural.
Razkids changes:  1.Read out loud once, 2. Read out loud and record, 3. Take quiz.

Math:  We will continue with our unit on whole numbers. Students should know their numbers up to 9 999 in French. There will be an evaluation next week. Students will be comparing numbers and organizing them into Venn diagrams.

English: Finish draft and good copy of the Epilogue for Secret Signs.

Science: We will continue part two of our unit on Waste in Our World. Students will be learning about some of the WHMIS hazard symbols, as well as the role that landfills play to properly dispose of waste.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about Alberta.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about the following theme: Called to be One: The Books of the Old Testament.

Here is what we will be covering in class this week:


French:  Students will continue to learn about common nouns. Students should be able to look up words in the French/English dictionary.There will be an evaluation on Friday A reminder that students should be reading out loud and to record themselves, in Razkids every night for at least 15 minutes. 

Math:  We will continue with our unit on whole numbers. Students should know their numbers up to 9 999 in French. There will be an evaluation soon where students will be representing numbers in different ways, comparing and ordering numbers up to 9 999.

English: TBA

Science: We will begin part two of our unit on Waste in Our World.

Social Studies: Students will learn about Alberta. 

Religion: Students will learn about our Patron Saint St.Luke. Our class is responsible for the liturgical celebration which is about St. Luke. The link will be sent this week.

 Here is what we will be covering in class this week:


French:  Students will learn about common nouns. They will also receive book reports that are due at the end of the month. There is no evaluation in French this week. A reminder that they should be reading out loud in Razkids every night for at least 15 minutes.

Math:  We will start our unit on whole numbers. Students should know their numbers up to 1000 in French. They also received their evaluation on patterns. Please review with your child, sign and comment if you want.

English: Students will start writing their epilogue to Secret Signs

Science: We will finish learning about the importance that red worms play in composting kitchen waste. There will be an evaluation on Wednesday. Students received a study guide on Friday.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about Alberta.

Religion: Students will continue to learn about how our Faith that makes us one. In addition, they will be learning about Thanksgiving and gratitude.

 Here is what we will be covering in class this week:


French:  Students will learn how to differentiate between AVOIR and ÊTRE in the present tense. There will be a pre-test (not for marks) on Monday, followed by an evaluation on Friday. They also have to go on Razkids for 15 minutes every night and reading out loud. They've received the steps to follow and they are not to change level for now.

Math:  We will continue our unit on patterns. They still have to practice saying numbers up to 100 (not in order).

English:  We are continuing to read Secret Signs by Jacqueline Guest.

Science: We will be learning about the importance that red worms play in composting kitchen waste.

Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about the geography of Alberta. 

Religion: Students will be learning about how our Faith makes us one.

*Please note that in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, there will be no school on Thursday.*

French:  Students will learn how to properly conjugate the verb AVOIR in the present tense. There will be an evaluation on Friday. In addition, we will be talking about the legacy of Terry Fox and continuing with personal journal writing.

Math:  We will start our unit on patterns. Students should be practicing their numbers up to 100 in French.

English: Students will be working on an assignment called the “I Can” hand. They write several statements about all the things they can do. We will also be reading  Secret Signs by Jacqueline Guest.

Science: We will be learning about the role decomposers play in turning waste into nutrient-rich soil.

Social Studies: Students will begin to learn about the geography of the World, then narrowing down to Canada and Alberta.

Religion: We are now working on the Unit 1: Called to Be One

Terry Fox Run : Friday, September 17 in the afternoon for Div 2.  Students are asked to bring $2 to go for cancer research and they will participate in the draw for a Terry Fox t-Shirt.

French: Students will be writing stories related to Spring. They will have two weeks for this assignment. Students have to read and take the quiz in Razkids 3 times this week. they also have to rewrite their "Passé Composé" sentences without any mistakes this time.


Math: We are continuing our unit on Mesuring time. 

English/ReligionStudents will present  their research project related to Black History Month. They will also complete their prayer to be said at the intercom in the morning.

Science: We will continue our unit on simple machines.

Social Studies: We will continue to learn about the natural resources of Alberta.

Wear green on March 17th for Saint-Patrick's Day.

Math:  We will continue our unit on telling time. Students are to go on xtramath 4 times per week to practice multiplication and division basic facts up to 10 X10. 

English: Students will complete and share their Black History Projects. 

Religion: Students will compose prayers and then they will read them over the intercom in the morning. 

Science: We will continue our unit on simple machines.

Social Studies: We will continue to learn about the natural resources of Alberta.

Mme Lora will be replacing me this week as my husband had a heart surgery last week. The school board has granted me a compassionate leave so he can have a compassionate nurse at his bed side! The students are in good hands.

English and Religion: Students will be working on their research project related to Black History Month.

Science: We will start presentations of the lights and shadows project on Monday.

Social Studies: We will start presentations of the Alberta regions project on Tuesday.

Social Studies: We will continue with our project on the different geographic elements in all 5 of the other regions of Alberta.

Religion: Students will prepare for the Ash Wednesday celebration and begin a research project related to Black History Month.

Mardi Gras- Parent Letter

 


Our most exciting school event will look different this year but will still be lots of fun and offer lots of GREAT prizes.  This year, Mardi Gras will consist of an ONLINE SILENT AUCTION and a VIRTUAL DANCE.

The ONLINE AUCTION/DANCE is only 4 weeks away on

FRIDAY, MARCH 12TH, 2021 from 6h30 to 8h30pm,

We are now accepting donations for the Silent Auction, which along with the virtual dance will be this year’s Mardi Gras Celebration.  Our Silent Auction relies on baskets filled with items donated by our school families.  Basket Themes are:

Kindergarten – Shop Local

Grade 1 – Pamper Mommy

Grade 2 – Daddy Time

Grade 3 – Sports/Games Night

Grade 4 – Summer Fun

Grade 5 – Winter Fun

Grade 6 – Wine Wine Wine

 

Please send any donation items to school with your child to be added to their grade’s basket.  Feel free to also donate to a different grade’s theme. 

 

This Auction is a key fundraiser for our school council, enabling us to fund programs and equipment that enhance the education of our children.  In typical years, the Mardi Gras Celebration is the school’s biggest fundraiser.  At this time, we are looking for some fun and unique donations to include in the auction.

 

The Silent Auctions will be available to view online from March 8th to 12th.  A weblink will be sent out once it is open.  Anyone interested in bidding on items will need to pre-register for a BIDDERS NUMBER.  Bidding will be open to ANYONE as long as the bidder registers under a St. Luke student’s name.  Details on how to register to bid will be coming in the next week.

 

The Silent Auction will include a wide variety of items to choose from.  The baskets will be set up so that the starting point is accessible.  Each prize will be shown with a full description of what is included, an approximate value, minimum bid and minimum bid increments.

 

The Virtual Dance will have a separate link during the silent auction.  Musical Twist will be running a zoom virtual dance which will include family friendly songs to dance to and games to be played.

 

Please consider supporting our students by donating items, participating in the online Mardi Gras Auction and dancing with your whole family.
